One of the greatest struggles we face as a society today is how people choose to express themselves. There are endless ways a person can make their feelings known, but there is most certainly a healthy choice and a not-so-healthy choice in doing so. People often find themselves either keeping their mouths closed about the situations they are going through OR they explode on the world around them through actions that are potentially harmful.
It is important for every individual to find a unique way of expressing their thoughts, their emotions, and the situations they find themselves in; this promotes not only individual health, but more unification and creativity within society as a whole. Here are just a few ways you can express what you are experiencing in a healthy way:
1. Journaling- Keeping a daily journal is one of the most popular ways people choose to express themselves. A journal is a tool that is kept just to the individual unless he or she chooses to share it. It allows you to see what you are going through in a very concrete way and from there you are able to gain a more honest view of what you are feeling or the situation you find yourself in.
2. Painting- Painting allows you to explore your thoughts in color, in chaos, and as the mess that it may be. There is something about creating with your hands, with a brush, and discovering insight within the finished product.
3. Movement- For those of us that are tactile beings, movement may provide a great pathway to expression. It allows you to feel in your physical being what it means to be sad, to be angry, to be joyful. It is a way of bringing the inside out and then back inside again.
It is important that as we go through situations and experiences in our lives, that we find ways to express how we are feeling in a healthy way. I encourage everyone to play with these options; you never know what you may grow to love.
