Ok, ladies, it's time to open up those self-reflection doors; topic today, CONTROL and our need to have it.
Years ago, women were fighting for our right as women to have a more prominent place in the workforce; to remove obstacles and stereotypes of what women's work looked like and the roles women were capable of filling. This was an important step for women across the board. However, with this accomplishment came a habit that is not as pleasant; the need to control.
The control of people and of circumstances is one that is creeping up more and more in individual women the greater their social standing becomes in the business world and is often seen as a strength. Reality, it is most often a weakness. When women become fixated on controlling situations such as events, schedules, conversations, and the roles people play in their lives; they miss the moments that used to be cherished. Those who find the need to control how others perceive them are no longer able to truly relax, unwind, or be present; they become more stressed, on edge and often times not relatable to others. Not only does this need to control become off putting for the friends and family of the woman, but she is also doing a disservice to herself. You cannot control other's thoughts, actions, or perceptions and when you believe you can, you will always be disappointed.
So, let's take a moment. Take a moment to reflect on how you are living TODAY. I want you to rejoice in the woman YOU ARE and let go of how you wish to be perceived. Take time to be with those you love and cherish and recognize why it is you love them. Let go of trying to manipulate situations and embrace the unknown. Get messy and let your hair down. Give hugs, think of others, and let your friends and family know how thankful you are for them. Finally, wipe that makeup off, start the bubble bath, and breathe in the rest and peace that fills you.
You are wonderfully and beautifully made, and that is enough ladies. Let us take the time to recognize how beautiful life can be.
