None of us live in a bubble (at least I haven't met anyone who does). We all live within a society filled with people- whether those people are family, friends, coworkers, etc.- we are surrounded by them nonetheless. For the most part, this is a blessing. It is important to share our lives with those that matter to us. People can provide value to our lives and joy to our day-to-day moments.
It is this beautiful dynamic of the human relationship that makes looking at your close inner circle of people a priority in our sessions together. Without looking at your family and friend dynamics, we may miss opportunity for growth in your lifestyle journey or we may miss some roadblocks- both of which are equally important.
If a client, who I will call Jane, has a husband, three daughters, and a ill mother under one roof; it is important to acknowledge some of the roadblocks to Jane's success in creating a healthier work-life balance. Perhaps Jane works 40 hours/week at a job outside the home and then is responsible for caring for her mother, the kids, and the housework/cooking. Although she loves her family, they are also contributing to her imbalance of work and life, which then leaves Jane feeling out of control. This is when it becomes crucial to discuss the family dynamic within the session. Why? So that healthy and exciting solutions can be created for Jane and her family!
We do not live in a bubble. We share our lives, our habits, our memories with people we love and care about! When applicable, it is important to bring these relationships to our sessions, because they are important to you and to your success in our work together!
