I get asked a lot of questions regarding the Little Bits natural skin line, and although I am not an esthetician or a cosmetologist, I have learned a lot about my skin and how to take care of it naturally (from the inside and the outside). I have created the Little Bits line with the purpose of each ingredient in mind and how I want to use each one! In fact, the products in my Little Bits natural skin line are the only products I use on my skin!
Today, I wanted to discuss how I change up my facial routine depending on the season, weather, and what I am doing during the day. Just like any part of your body, you have to treat your skin differently depending on what it is being put through throughout the day.
Here is the basic (Also used for Fall/Spring) outline:
Step 1. If I have any makeup on at all, I use coconut oil to remove it. It seriously works wonders when it comes to getting off that pesky mascara or eyeshadow. I just apply the oil by hand and remove with a wet washcloth. If I have no makeup on, I begin with step 2.
Step 2. I follow up with my "Rose & Oat" Facial Scrub. Place a dime size amount in the palm of your hand, add a couple drops of water, mix slightly, apply to your face in a gentle circular motion, rinse off with water, and pat dry. I recommend avoiding the eyes as the scrub does contain pink himalayan sea salts. (More on the benefits of using salts in a future post, but in the meantime know that it does a fabulous job of removing any excess coconut oil from the skin that may have been leftover from the step above.)
Step 3. Next up is one of my multiple facial toners. My favorite at the moment is the "Floral & Herb" Facial Toner. It contains apple cider vinegar which removes a lot of the extra bacteria that is created from the damp heat in the air at the moment. Spritz on and wipe gently with a cotton pad.
Step 4. Finally, I use my "Baobab" Facial Serum to provide added moisture and yummy nutrients to my skin. A couple drops will do and I apply it gently across the face focussing on the drier areas. I am also currently using it on my eyelashes, but a product may be in the works for these precious little hairs, so stay tuned!
During the Summer/Winter months:
The only difference I make in the summer and winter months is dependent on the humidity. I tend to have a slightly oily "T" zone during certain seasons, so when the air is extra humid I tend to eliminate Step 4- the "Baobab" Facial Serum at night. This allows for my skin to breathe without having any excess oils on it. If the air is drier such is the case during many of the wintery days, my skin tends to get a little dry around the nose, chin, and cheeks, so I use the "Baobab" Facial Serum morning and night to provide added moisture throughout the day. If your skin tends to be extra dry, you should check out my "Rose & Chamomile" Facial Cream.
Dependent on the Day:
So my week looks a bit like this--->
Monday-Wednesday I work as a barista at a local coffeehouse (6am-4pm) and see clients sometimes in the afternoon hours, Thursday-Friday I spend the day seeing clients and connecting with them one-on-one. Saturday-Sunday I spend with the hubby, family, friends and also use it as downtime to restore for the week ahead. So with this schedule, I adjust my facial routine slightly depending on the day.
Here we go:
Monday-Wednesday--> If I am seeing clients immediately after hours making coffee, I always pack a facial toner or mist in my bag. It is the perfect way to remove any excess oils, coffee grounds, or anything else I may have acquired on my face throughout the day. It prevents the pores in my skin from getting really clogged before I am able to properly wash my face. For whatever reason, my face is always way more greasy following a coffee shift than any other time throughout the week. So on Wednesday, after I am done with my coffeehouse shifts for the week, I also take the time to use one of my facial masks to really remove any grit or grime from my face. I like to think of it as starting fresh and ready with putting my best face forward for my meetings with clients. It provides a shift mentally and physically for me for the rest of the week.
Thursday-Sunday--> I typically follow my basic routine found at the start of this post. The only difference is that when I workout, I definitely pack a facial mist or toner in my bag, if I don't have time to shower before my next scheduled commitment. Also, if I get extra down and dirty over the weekend, such as with gardening, hiking, etc., I will often do another facial mask at the end of the day. (Shucks more time pampering. ha)
