I have asked many people over the last few weeks what their thoughts are on New Year's Resolutions. I have begun to realize that as a society we have acquired this way of thinking that NY Resolutions are bad and we should just focus on making changes throughout the year... and frankly... I 100% agree (well to the second part anyway)! It is important to make the changes you want to make throughout the entire year rather than waiting until January 1st arrives (why would you want to waste a whole year that way?)
HOWEVER, the New Year is the PERFECT time to set an intention and come up with a game plan for your FIRST lifestyle change of the year! By setting a NY Resolution, you are creating a great habit for the rest of the year. You get to start the year knowing you are already making wiser, healthier decisions for your life on the first day that this new year brings. You begin to see the entire year full of possibilites and lifestyle changes, and that ladies, is a very neat thing!
On the flipside, I tend to find a trend with those who don't believe in creating a NY Resolution. They may make statements such as "I just wait until I am in the right mindset to make changes" or "I just make changes as they come to me" or "Making New Year's Resolutions just sets me up for failure". If this is you, I need to ask a few questions. How often do you find yourself in the "right" mindset to make changes? How do you know what the right mindset looks like? Do you consistently make changes and keep these new habits throughout the year? Do the lifestyle changes you make last? What about a NY Resolution makes you fail? What about the 1st of the year makes you fail versus any other time of year?
Here is my perspective- Get out there, create a goal this year. YES, create a NY Resolution. Continue creating goals and lifestyle changes thoughtout the year. Then let me help you maintain these new lifestyle changes! The New Year and Yourself are worth giving your time to this year!
