Ladies, I have a confession to make- I have been reflecting on my time management lately and I have a dilemma. Truth is, I am a giver of my time. I enjoy giving my time and energy to those who seek advice, guidance, or friendship. I find value in connecting with people and helping them establish themselves in a more concrete and real way! Do you see the dilemma? Maybe not.
The issue that arises is that no matter who you are or where you live, we only have so much time in a day/week- 24 hours in a day, 168 hours in a week. We then also have priorities- those people, events, and things that hold deeper value and importance to us than other things. HOWEVER, when you are compassionate; when you care about others and the lives they create, it can be difficult to stick to your guns and maintain boundaries with your time. You schedule a meeting here, an event with a friend there, and commit to other obligations in between; and pretty soon, your days are full and no longer lived intentionally.
There are also people who you will come across in your life who do not value your time. They will continually disrespect and abuse the time you offer them leaving you left with very little. Time spent with those who do not show respect in return is actually serving as a disservice. People who abuse your time are taking your time and energy away from the people who truly deserve your valuable and meaningful presence. They leave you feeling zapped, drained, and essentially ineffective in all aspects.
But here is the truth ladies... YOUR TIME IS VALUABLE. IT IS MEANINGFUL. IT IS YOURS TO RESPECT... because no one else will do this for you! So be careful and diligent in how you plan your days. Look at your priorities and create the space and time in your schedule for them. Begin to navigate your days with intention.
The beautiful thing- once you begin to become firm in how you use your time, those around you will respect it too. They will know the time you give to them is valuable to you as well because you created time to spend with them, to fully listen and be present with them! Who doesn't want to feel valued?
So the challenge to myself? To make sure I am setting firm and clear time boundaries with those around me. To respectfully decline commitments I cannot take on during a particular week. And finally, to remember my time is valuable and not to be taken lightly.
Let's live life to the fullest- intentionally and purposefully!
Here is to our health ladies!
