One of the biggest things we often overlook today is the necessity of a mental vacation. We hustle, we schedule, we plan; but without the proper rest and relaxation, we are not giving to society (or to ourselves) the best that we can give. By allowing ourselves time to unwind and refocus, we set ourselves up for mental clarity for the week ahead. Here are just a few ideas for your next mental vaca!
1. Choose a weekend for a stay-cation- don't leave the house! You heard me, commit your time to restoration and relaxation in your home. The tricky part, you also cannot use that time for your "to-do list". Turn off your electronics, get under the covers, and do what you find to be relaxing. By the end of the weekend you will be more mentally restored and prepared for the week ahead!
2. If you only have a morning or evening- spend some time in meditation. Light your favorite candle/incense, find a comfy position, put on your coziest clothes, and meditate on what you are excited about for the day ahead. Evening? Journal about the blessings of your day. If you have a little more time, take a calming bubble bath or give yourself a mini foot massage.
3. Color- Yep, resort to your inner child. You don't have to be an artist to enjoy the release that artistic outlets can bring to your day. There are thousands of adult coloring books on the shelves today! So go pick one up and find your creativity! It is a great way to bring you back to what it feels like to be young and more carefree!
4. Movement- Not all movement is treated equally. Find movement that connects you to your inner self and incorporate it into your weekly, even daily, routine. I highly recommend Hatha Yoga or Modern Dance. Movement's beauty is found in the benefits it brings to mind, body, and soul.
