We all have a personal power hour- the period of day which you are the most productive, focused, and inspired. It is also when you are the most likely to get something “big” accomplished such as your latest work project, the call to your long distance relative, or the big to-do list around the house. Once you have honed-in on your power hour, you will be amazed at what you can accomplish daily!
So how do you find your power hour?
Pay attention to your body throughout the day:
It may seem obvious, but our physiological responses and abilities change throughout the day. If you find your brain getting “fuzzy”, you experience a dull headache, or you are straining your eyes to focus, this is most certainly NOT your power hour. Rather, look for times in the day when you feel energized, fueled and refreshed.
Recognize the progress at set times during the day:
You will find that during particular times during the day you are able to get a task accomplished swiftly and correctly without experiencing a lack of focus. These may very well be your power hour moments. It may be helpful to record these times over the next couple of weeks in order to find a pattern in your ability to focus throughout the day.
Notice external cues:
Often times our power hour is created because of environmental circumstances. For example, if you are having to multitask during the first half of your day, have a nutritious lunch, and have a more relaxed afternoon, you may find that your most focused time is sometime after your lunch break. Notice when you feel fully fueled and when your external demands are not consuming your full attention. This is most likely your opportune time to be the most energized and complete the greatest tasks on your list.
Take sometime this week to hone-in on your power hour. Reflect at different parts of your day on how you are functioning and when you seem to be at the top of your game. Take note about any physiological triggers you have in order to tell when you are at your power hour and when you are not.
